Skill levels
The Heroes in Dawn of Darkness have special attacks/skills that make them unique. It's one of the biggest aspects of the game, and they have a huge impact on your gameplay. Not only can you upgrade these skills, they change and they become more powerful over time as the level progresses. Each hero's name and skill name will change colour at certain skill levels. That's where they possibly also get additional bonuses.

          Lv 1: Grey
          Lv 4: Green
          Lv 7: Blue
          Lv 10: Purple
          Lv 12: Gold
     Lv 16: Red



Hero Cards
Hero Cards are used to upgrade your hero's skill (or default attack if they don't have a skill). You can obtain these by buying them in the Auction House through bidding with the currency of gold (as well as put up your own auction lots to get some gold!), by playing the Slots (Hero Cards to get a random Hero Card & Hero Card Packs to get 3-8 random Hero Cards) and by joining the Faction Sieges (Ironblood, Dawn and Divine - first your own, then you can join the others that haven't finished yet), as can be seen at the Events button. 

 
The higher up your skill levels become, the more cards are needed to level them up, up to a maximum of skill level 12. Each specific hero has a specific Hero Card. For instance: Nessa needs a certain amount of Nessa Hero Cards to upgrade. Then there are Wild Cards (as shown above) that can be made by fusing any 3 Hero Cards (=1 Wild Card), and can be used as any one Hero Card. Main heroes - these are the beginning heroes you choose from. You can't dismiss your main hero, and he or she must always remain in your battle formation/team. There are no differences between a male and female version of a class, although the classes themselves do differ a bit.
